How Does The TALON System Work?

A considerable amount of innovation and engineering has gone into designing this new modular case system. We want to share with you some of the science behind how it works so that you can feel confident that your system will protect your equipment sufficiently. After all, with a completely new approach to the reconfigurable case market, it's good to have questions about its effectiveness. 

Traditional pluck-foam protection has always been about removing as little material as possible in the shape of your equipment. There are many drawbacks to this method of protection; most painfully: a lack of reconfigurability. But what if we start with the equipment and then build sufficient protection around it? Of course your next question will be: "What is sufficient?"

42 INCH DROP TESTS

We test our systems and cases for 42" drop tests on every side with a heavy rifle, as well as all of our accessory blocks, in a variety of harsh conditions. Depending on the brand and age of your hard case, the shell may crack or fail before our system does. Why 42"? That's actually higher than what your high-end case manufacturers like Pelican test their cases to. If you correctly position your equipment and blocks as outlined in our user manual, the system should safely cushion your valuables. 

MATERIAL SCIENCE

The materials and manufacturing methods we choose are not cheap, but they are the best.

With each system, there are a number of components you will receive. First, the foam base is high quality polyethylene foam custom cut to your specific case. This is the gold standard material for impact absorption and will last almost indefinitely in many storage conditions. Most vendors will sell you cheap pluck foam with your rifle case. While typically sufficient for most minor drops, this foam tends to degrade, stain, and deform over time. Our foam is firmer, more durable, and provides even better protection. It is permanently laminated on one side with premium nylon loop fabric that is easily cleanable and about as soft as suede fabric you might wear. We purposely sourced higher quality fabric due to its resistance to collect dirt, debris, and sand. Wipe with a damp microfiber cloth and your base should look as good as the day you bought it.

The foam blocks you will receive are carefully engineered to absorb maximum impact without compromising space. These blocks are extremely tough integral-skinned polyurethane foam and each one is permanently bonded to high quality low profile hook material. We utilize a unique method of bonding the hook material to the polyurethane, so there is no possibility of delamination even with heavy exposure to degradative chemicals. Geometry created by sandwiching everything together creates a soft and secure landing if your case takes a tumble. "But how can this system work so well if the blocks easily pull off?" During a drop, shear force is applied to the hook material rather than the tensile forces you use to remove blocks during reconfiguration. In other words, the blocks are easy to reconfigure when you want but shifting during a drop is nearly impossible.

CUSTOMIZATION

You may wish to order accent caps for your system. These are purely cosmetic and do not impact the function of your case system. However, they are designed carefully with the intention of enhancing the appearance of your rifles without the need for additional tools. The patterns we have selected are individually designed to look great in any orientation, and the colors we offer are just as carefully considered. While they are, for now, 3D printed, you might not immediately believe it. Our unique printing methods create a visually stunning surface appearance that mimics the distinct shimmer of carbon fiber. The result is a photogenic level of appearance with every possible setup. Traditional injection molding simply cannot replicate the appearances we can offer you, so we encourage you to check them out!
